Churches in Downtown AthensThe places of worship included here are all located in historic downtown Athens. There is a dedicated page for each of these churches with as much relevant information as we can gather and we will be enriching it from time to time as additional information comes to our knowledge.
Greek churches mostly celebrate on the eve before and on the day of the year of the name of the Saint they are dedicated to. Where we have identified that day, we list it in the relevant page. Should you happen to be in Athens during one of these days, make a point of visiting the church and witness first hand the celebrations. Finally, make a note that for the Greek-Orthodox church, Easter is the most important and sacred religious holiday in the year, and it is full of festivities testifying to the religious reverence of the Greek people, but also to the continuity of several traditions and customs from deep antiquity to recent years. Blessed with a sun-soaked Mediterranean climate, hundreds of idyllic island escapes and an ancient history steeped in mythology, Greece is a natural choice for adventurous people to get married or for honeymooners. Couples can head to historic Athens for the VIP treatment on a romantic picnic in the hills, an exclusive tour of the UNESCO-listed Acropolis, or a private walking tour with a personal photographer to capture memorable moments.
