Oh yes, I feel privileged. I am lucky to live by the foothills of the Acropolis of Athens, a place where millions visit every year to experience the magic that is to see for yourself the place where democracy was established, and art reached its apogee during the 5th c. BC and under the rule of Pericles. I often wander in the historic neighborhood with my small camera taking pictures, mostly for the website, often for myself, just because I love the small surprises of the day.
Other than the awesome historic surroundings however, which I happened to know ever since I was a young child having been born in the neighborhood half a century ago, I often feel that the "view" is what we see with the eyes of our heart, and not only through our sense of vision. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, says the old cliche phrase, but also of the dreamer or the one who is determined to discover beauty even when reality says that what you see is common and usual.
Such is the feeling that I get each and every morning through the window of our kitchen, in the rental apartment my family lives. Each morning greets us with different light, a different sky, another formation of clouds or the lack of them, each full of energy, promise, surprises or the certainty that no matter what, we do live in the glorious city of Athens.
So I have created a folder of pictures that I have taken through the kitchen window of the very small balcony that we use to hang the freshly washed clothes out to dry. At times, when it is very early in the morning, and the sun is not up yet, there is not much to see. But other times, a spectacular variation of this limited area of sky is the best reward, and the most wonderful prelude of a new day to come!
